Built to connect

Integration is part of Shipnet's architecture, not an afterthought. You can bring in the tools, data sources, and specialist systems your fleet already depends on, without duplicating data entry or reconciling numbers across disconnected systems.

We use this openness to extend what Shipnet delivers natively - connecting you to specialist providers and data sources so you get the functionality you need, even when it isn't something we build ourselves.

How integration works

Shipnet supports integration across several layers:

API-based integration - for real-time or on-demand data exchange with external systems

File-based interfaces - for structured batch exchanges (for example, payment and banking formats)

Dashboards & analytics - for surfacing Shipnet data in your own BI/reporting tools

API Centre

Shipnet APIs are based on the OpenAPI specification, with documented endpoints across the ERP, voyage, and vessel-management domains

The API surface is expanded continuously as new capabilities are added

Pre-built integrations to common applications and platforms

Where integration adds the most value

Crewing

Shipnet does not provide crewing functionality directly. Instead, we integrate with established crewing specialists via their APIs, so crew data flows into your operational picture without manual re-entry. We can integrate with any modern, API based crew management system.

Finance & payments

File-based interfaces support common banking and payment formats, reducing manual reconciliation work for accounting teams. Over the years we have build a large library of connections to banks, and can easily expand to add more.

Invoice processing

API-based integration is available with invoice scanning/automation tools, reducing manual AP data entry.

Market & reference data

Integration with third-party market data providers (e.g. freight and bunker pricing) is supported, so commercial teams work from current external data alongside Shipnet's own figures.

Business intelligence & reporting

Shipnet data can be surfaced into external BI tools for customers who want to build their own analytics on top of Shipnet data.

Designed around maritime connectivity

Vessel connectivity is not always equivalent to a shore-based office connection

Bandwidth may be restricted, coverage may be interrupted, and access can vary between vessels, routes, and operating environments. Digital tools used onboard need to account for those practical conditions.

Where supported by the relevant application and workflow, offline working allows users to continue capturing information without depending on a permanent live connection.

The information can then be synchronised with the wider Shipnet environment when connectivity becomes available, helping operational activity continue without making the connection itself the centre of the process.

Helix: structured data for analytics

Helix is Shipnet's data layer for turning ERP data into analytics-ready datasets:

  • Restructures Shipnet ERP data into simplified, human-readable datasets
  • Data synchronises from Shipnet into Helix on a regular (daily) basis
  • Customers connect their own BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Excel, Tableau) via secure credentials - Helix does not include a BI tool itself; that is down to the customer
  • Datasets are predefined by Shipnet; additional Shipnet-native fields can be added on request
  • Third-party system integration into Helix is possible via API, but is scoped and quoted separately through Shipnet Strategic Services — it is not a self-serve capability today

Where a specialist provider already does something well - crewing, for example - we'd rather integrate with them than build a version in-house that isn't as fully featured or proven.

This keeps Shipnet focused on maritime ERP and voyage/vessel management while still giving you a joined-up operational picture.

The same applies to the integration work itself. Standard connections are covered by the API Centre and the file-based interfaces described above. Where a connection needs design work - bespoke field mapping, an unusual file format, or a third-party system feeding into Helix — that is scoped and delivered by Shipnet, allow you to define exactly the behavior from the integration you expect and want.

Integration built on practical understanding

A successful integration is not simply about moving data from one system to another. It must reflect how your vessels, shore teams, and specialist providers actually work - and keep information accurate, consistent, and useful throughout the process.

Shipnet combines established maritime knowledge with an open, pragmatic approach to integration. We are clear about what is available as standard, what requires additional scoping, and where a specialist system remains the right tool for the job.

The result is a connected environment built around your operation, without forcing you to replace trusted applications or compromise the workflows that already work.
